STABLECOIN ADOPTION EXPANDS BEYOND PAYMENTS INTO CORPORATE FINANCE

Fiat-backed digital currencies are reshaping how companies approach financial infrastructure, opening new possibilities for managing money and delivering services across increasingly connected markets.

In brief:

₿- Stablecoin adoption is creating new opportunities for businesses to develop digital financial products, including payment cards, stored balances, and customer wallets.

₿- Businesses are integrating stablecoins into financial operations to improve settlement speed, liquidity management, and access to global payment infrastructure.

Stablecoin adoption is gaining momentum among businesses as digital currencies move beyond cross-border payments into corporate treasury management, digital wallets, and embedded finance. A new Payoneer study shows that enterprises are increasingly incorporating stablecoin technology into their financial operations, highlighting its growing role in global payments infrastructure and business financial services.

Enterprise stablecoin adoption moves beyond experimentation

The study surveyed 265 senior payments, finance, and treasury executives at U.S.-based marketplaces, platforms, and enterprises with annual revenues of at least $100 million. The findings reveal that 69% of respondents already use stablecoins in live business operations, while another 28% are testing or evaluating the technology. Overall, 97% are actively engaged with stablecoin adoption.

The transition from pilot projects to operational deployment also appears to influence how businesses assess the technology’s value. Companies with substantial stablecoin activity were more than three times as likely to consider stablecoins very valuable compared with organizations still experimenting with them. They were also more than twice as likely to offer stablecoin-powered services directly to customers.

Transaction volumes are another important factor. Among businesses processing more than $1 billion in annual cross-border payments, 65% considered stablecoins very valuable, compared with 43% of companies handling less than $50 million.

Stablecoins gain traction in treasury management and embedded finance

Corporate treasury management is emerging as an important application beyond traditional stablecoin payments. Blockchain-based settlement allows businesses to transfer funds around the clock, potentially reducing delays associated with banking hours and improving liquidity management. Faster settlement can also reduce the working capital tied up in international payment operations.

Meanwhile, embedded finance is creating additional opportunities for stablecoin integration. Marketplaces and digital platforms are exploring stablecoin-powered digital wallets, stored balances, and payment cards that allow customers to access financial services directly through existing applications.

These services can be delivered through partnerships with regulated financial institutions and infrastructure providers, enabling businesses to offer payment and financial products without independently building an entire banking infrastructure.

Enterprise demand drives the stablecoin ecosystem forward

Businesses increasingly expect stablecoins to become relevant across a wider range of financial services. At least 83% of survey participants consider applications beyond payments a current priority or an area of interest within the next three years.

Growing enterprise demand is also supporting the development of the stablecoin infrastructure ecosystem. Key participants include issuers such as Circle and Tether, custody and infrastructure providers such as Fireblocks, payment platforms such as BVNK, and cross-border payment networks such as TerraPay.

As adoption moves into everyday business operations, stablecoins are evolving from specialized payment instruments into a broader financial infrastructure layer, connecting international payments, corporate liquidity management, and embedded financial services.
